Unless you built a custom home, you probably have a long list of things you’d like to improve in your current home. Browsing online listings might get you in the mood to upgrade to a new home, or you might be thinking about renovating your current home after binging on HGTV. The answer to renovation vs. relocation depends greatly on what you’re trying to fix.
Thinking about a new kitchen?If you’re dreaming of a chef’s kitchen with new appliances and beautiful cabinets, renovating your own kitchen gives you incredible ROI and is less costly than moving. You’ll increase the value of your own home if you ever decide to sell, and there’s a great sense of accomplishment that comes with completing a custom renovation.
Need more space?If you’re running low on bedrooms, there may not be a lot of options. Converting an existing room to a bedroom doesn’t create any new space. If you’re in a condo, an addition is probably impossible. And additions can be expensive even if it’s a possibility. Moving is usually the best option.
If the neighborhood isn’t idealYou may have seen some potential for your neighborhood when you first moved there, but perhaps it still isn’t welcoming the shops and restaurants you expected. If that’s the case, consider moving. There’s no sense in waiting years for the neighborhood to improve, especially if you can move to a house in the same price range in a more preferred part of the city.

"Sometimes we think true customer service is dead in America and then we meet total strangers like my friend Jimmy. I met Jimmy because of an un-foreseen situation where I had to move from my rental home. Jimmy met me at one of the houses I was interested in buying then he kind of just step back and let me walk through the home. He came around and asked me what I thought about the home and as we walked through it he pointed out some areas of concern on the house instead of pressuring me into signing a contract since houses are flying off the DFW market. What really let me know I have met another life long friend is when I thought I located the perfected for sale by owner home in Mansfield and Jimmy did some research on the home and determine this situation was possibly a scam. Jimmy treated me like family and insured I did not make a 120K mistake that could destroy my finances. When we determined I should probably rent for a while before a home purchase Jimmy went above and beyond to help me search for a rental home at no charge. I would call him Mr. Pyka but I consider Jimmy my new life long friend. I am currently adjusting my IRA so I will have funds to make the down payment for my home purchase. I look forward to purchasing a home from Jimmy here in the near future and I would highly recommend him as a stand up guy.
