Is The New Chisholm Trail Parkway A Help Or A Hassle
Is the new Chisholm Trail Parkway a help or a hassle?

Have you updated your GPS lately?
I know I have not. I have had to figure out how to navigate the CTP Tollway by exploration.
Even if you have, it might not show the new Chisholm Trail Parkway. But I have also found some online maps that have already updated the newly constructed Parkway, and sometimes they will route me to use it using GPS on a mobile device. But what no map will do is show you where road construction is taking place along the route.
I mentioned in my first post that the Parkway was not complete when opened, nor is it yet. It was supposed to be completed by the end of June, but I assume the soggy weather has delayed progress several times. I follow the progress weekly as I travel the trail during my normal commutes around town. I still do not think it looks anywhere near complete. There are several work zones where the speed limit is reduced. There are barricades and cones everywhere. The directional signs are not all installed. But what frustrates me the most are the random off-ramp closures that make you have to detour without notice. Then without a map or GPS, you don't know where to go from there! There are no detour directional signs to show you where to go instead.Once, I was headed home, and as I came up on my exit, it was blocked! No notice, no signs, nothing! I had to go down to the next exit. Then I had to decide whether to circle back on the toll road or take surface streets back home. If I took the surface streets, it would have added a few miles to my route, defeating the whole purpose of taking the toll road in the first place. But if I circled back onto the toll road, there's another charge! I did circle back, I was ready to be home after a long day. That was really annoying, they get you coming and going, don't they?
Another time, I wanted to exit at a certain exit that was closed, again no detour signs, but I didn't know how to get back on route. My GPS didn't help, it did not show me on a road at all! I could not look up an online map while I was driving. I drove around out of my way for a while until I made my way back on route (still not sure how I did it, lol!) But once again, that negated the whole purpose of the toll road, for me anyway.
Still, I do find the CTP helpful and convenient. Last week my husband said we should not drive on it unless necessary. Remember I mentioned in a previous post that his company expenses our toll tags for use on both of our vehicles. He said using it for anything other than his business travel was taking advantage of his employer, especially by me. So I reluctantly went back to driving through Fort Worth using the surface streets. After having driven on the toll roads for a few weeks, putting up with local traffic was even more painful than before - I was already used to zipping along in no traffic! Besides, what constitutes "necessary"? To me, avoiding stress, saving time and gas is necessary -- LOL! But his idea of "necessary" is if you are in a hurry because you are running late, or stuck in traffic, there is an accident, something like that, lol. So I compromised with him and cut down my toll road driving in half. But I still use it when I drive all the way to Cleburne weekly. I convinced him by showing him the route on a map, with and without using the CTP. It takes up to an hour to drive there without the Trail, only half that on the Trail, although the mileage difference is only about 6 miles!Believe me, I made sure to use it when I picked him up from the airport last week ( for business of course!) If I didn't take him and pick him up, there would have been a week of parking charged on the toll tag! I am sure the drive was cost effective in that case!
